When Alexander the Great marched into Egypt in 332BCE, the Egyptians welcomed him with open arms for they were utterly contemptuous of the rule of the Persians under whom they experienced immense persecution. The historical annals tell us that the young Macedonian King made his way to the legendary Oracle of Siwa and thence to Memphis to be crowned King of Egypt. What is not commonly known is that Alexander also visited Hermopolis, the origin of the Hermetic traditions that seeded the wisdom of our western world. Near to Hermopolis was the city of Panopolis from whence the famed Zosimos emerged as the Master Alchemist of the ancient world. These two cities were the twin flames of wisdom that became great beacons of light for Western civilization.

In this evening talk we will explore the origins and journey of these two traditions from Ancient Egypt into Graeco-Roman Egypt eventually becoming re-defined in the Arabic traditions and ultimately finding their way into Europe via the Renaissance. As we explore these traditions, we may attune ourselves to the eternal message that continues to resonate with us down through the ages and seek out their relevance to our contemporary world situation.

The House of the Ibis stands at the intersection of the Near Eastern and Middle Eastern sacred traditions. We are dedicated to the philosophy, teachings and practices that are the deeper and hidden aspects of these traditions. And in so doing, demonstrate their relevance to our modern world situation.

Our work is focused on the eternal search for the Divine Self, at the centre of your being. We explore this through three primary esoteric streams of Kabbalah, Ancient Egypt, and Arabic Theurgy.
